Moat and local partners including the Metropolitan Police, Greenwich Council, Charlton Athletic Football Club, Charlton Park Rugby Club and Samuel Montagu Youth Centre, have worked together to organise a ‘Teen Challenge’ day on Thursday 30 June between 3pm and 7pm at Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV). Taking place between the health centre and Millennium Primary School, the aim is to let local young people know about the activities available locally, and to find out alternative activities they would like to try out.

There will be an art competition for young attendees to take part in. They will be asked to draw their ideal design for GMV; how they would like to see the development if it was their choice. The winner of the competition will win tickets to the Odeon cinema at Greenwich Peninsula, while the runner up will receive a free meal for two at Nando’s in the O2 arena.

As well as the art competition, local young people can have their say on how they want their community to develop. It’s important that residents feel that they have a stake in their community, and particularly that young residents feel valued by local service providers. Moat and their partners hope to create an environment at GMV where young residents get to know one another and receive any support they need to take up the opportunities available to them.

Sarah Bowden, Moat’s Community Development Officer at GMV, says; “Our main aim for today is that more local young people get involved in shaping the services they receive. We want to ensure that they can access services that they want, not those that we think they want. In asking young people at GMV what they would like to do, we can work with local partners to provide structured, accredited activities that support personal development and, more importantly, are loads of fun!”
