11 months after building work began to transform Calton Court, Riversmead Housing Association’s £6 million flexicare housing complex at Sele Farm in Hertford; residents who will be living at the complex got the first glimpse of their new homes.

The site visit, organised by Riversmead and its contractor Hill Partnerships, enabled residents and their friends and families to go on site and view the interior of the new one and two bed flats, which have had new kitchens and wet rooms installed.

Jo Bender, Calton Court resident, said: “I am delighted at seeing my new flat; it is everything I had hoped for and much more. I can’t wait to move in to my new home – this really is the best thing that has happened to me for a long time.”

When it’s finished, Calton Court will be a designated flexicare housing scheme comprising 54 one and two bedroom flats, plus additional facilities including communal lounges, a laundry room, guest suite for visitors, 24 hour community alarm and a doctor’s surgery.

Flexicare is a housing option that allows residents to continue living independently whilst receiving care and support from on site carers, 24 hours a day that suits their needs, whether this means regular care or occasional assistance.

Sara Holtby, Riversmead’s Flexicare Manager, commented: “The progress that has been made at Calton Court so far is remarkable – the complex will be a great community resource, where local people can use the facilities and participate in social activities.

“It was wonderful to share this experience with our residents and see their delight and excitement at visualising what life will be like in their new homes.”

Phase 1 of Calton Court is due for completion by the end of the year with phase 2 following during summer 2012. For more information visit www.riversmead.org.uk or contact Customer Services on 01992 514 514.
