On Friday 20 May, Moat welcomed the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) announcement that all Ministry of Defence (MoD) personnel will have increased priority when being considered for low cost home ownership schemes. This will mean that British troops’ housing applications move to the top of the pile; and Moat is delighted to have the opportunity to support them with taking their first steps on the property ladder.
Serving military personnel as well as those who left less than 12 months ago are being made the highest priority for shared ownership and equity loan schemes such as HomeBuy Direct and the recently announced FirstBuy, all offered by Moat in their role as the Government-appointed Local HomeBuy Agent for Essex, Kent and Sussex.
Before this announcement, priority status placed social tenants first, followed by MoD personnel and local authority priority groups, followed by all other first time buyers. The new system gives social tenants and MOD personnel equal first priority, providing a more efficient process for finding them an affordable home.
Marilyn DiCara, Moat’s Director of Sales and Marketing, says; “We look forward to playing our part in helping qualifying MoD personnel to find affordable homes. It seems fitting that those who give up so much for their country should be prioritised when looking to step onto the property ladder. In our role as Local HomeBuy Agent for Essex, Kent and Sussex, it will be an honour to support them.”
