Youngsters from a local school joined residents of a County Durham estate to help improve the area for everyone.

The pupils from Peases West School joined Stanley Way Residents Association and representatives of Dale & Valley Homes and the police to plant flowers in ornamental beds around Stanley Way in Billy Row.

The flowers were paid for by Dale & Valley Homes and the event was organised by Harold Wilsher from the residents association.

Craig Sams, neighbourhood officer for Dale & Valley Homes, said: “We have worked closely with local people over many years to really improve this area.

“Residents are rightly proud of what they have achieved. The flower beds make the streets look really cared for and involving the children will help them respect the effort other people have put in.”
