Sunderland-based Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East has been recognised as one of the safest construction companies in the UK.
The community regeneration specialist took home a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health & Safety Sector Award at a glittering awards ceremony last night after being commended in the Housebuilding & Property Development Sector category.
The award comes just days after the firm was shortlisted in the health and safety and innovations categories of the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards.
Safety charity, RoSPA, not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.
The Constructing Excellence North East shortlist comes following FHM’s work with Your Homes Newcastle to help reduce the risk from asbestos during improvements to homes across the city.
David Mellor, Managing Director of FHM North East, said: “The RoSPA awards recognise organisations for making health & safety their number one priority. This is the third out of the last four years where we have received this major award and it is credit to everyone working within the organisation.
“Each year, hundreds of construction companies enter this award and to consistently be judged as one of the best is a fantastic achievement.
“The award, combined with our successes at the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards, shows that health and safety is of the upmost importance to us as an organisation and we have a robust health and safety policy which is implemented on every one of our sites.”
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. FHM North East has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour them through the presentation of an award.”
