residents celebrate opening of new play area and gardens
A community project based in Coleford has been selected as a finalist in the National Housing Federations’ What We Are Proud of Awards 2011.
The Tufthorn Community Project is managed by members of the local community and has seen an unused piece of land transformed into a multi-use children’s play area and shared garden space. The land is adjacent to properties managed by Two Rivers Housing and is owned by the housing provider. Residents have worked with Two Rivers and other agencies to bring their exciting idea to life.
Jane Cordier, Community Initiatives Officer for Two Rivers Housing said:
“We’re thrilled that this project has been so successful, working with this passionate community has been very rewarding. To be recognised in the NHF What We Are Proud of Awards this year is superb and is testament to the community’s determination and focus on achieving their goals. I sincerely hope that when the awards are announced this June, this project is a winner.”
In all there are five awards categories, including Best contribution to the local community, Best partnership working and Best impact on residents. The Tufthorn Community Project has been shortlisted in the Best contribution to the local community category alongside just three others.
Jenny Allen, South West Lead Manager for the National Housing Federation, said: “Our annual What We Are Proud of Awards are a fantastic showcase for some of the best schemes and initiatives run by housing associations in the region. With 22 entries for the South West awards Two Rivers Housing has done very well to be shortlisted. Our tenant judges who decided which entries should go through to the regional heats were clearly impressed by the Tufthorn Community Project, putting it forward for the 'Best contribution to the local community' category. I look forward to finding out who the final winners will be at our special event on 29 June."
The awards are now in their fourth year. The regional winner will be announced at a special South West evening event in Taunton on Wednesday 29 June.
