The children from Tower Primary School in Ware, had cause to celebrate after a new sensory garden was opened by Riversmead Housing Association Board member, Keith Cotton, in their school playground.

£1500 from Riversmead’s community investment fund was donated to the school to cover the costs of the project and bring their ideas of building the garden to life.

The sensory garden, designed and created by DC Landscapes with the aim of stimulating the senses, contains herbs, a selection of touch sensitive plants and a waterfall. The school hopes that as the garden flourishes they can begin growing vegetables and fruit in it, as well as attracting local wildlife.

Wendy Duncan, Riversmead’s Senior Neighbourhood Officer, commented: “We are pleased to have supported this project and hope the school reap the benefits of this feature for years to come. Special thanks should be given to our partnering contractor DC Landscapes for their hard work in creating this sensory display – the results are fantastic. I hope the garden will provide much enjoyment for the children, whether they use it to learn about our senses or as a place to relax.”

Head Teacher, Carole Thorpe, said: “The staff, governors and children of
Tower Primary School would like to thank Riversmead for generously sponsoring and DC Landscapes for designing and building, our new sensory garden. It not only looks beautiful but will also support the children's learning in many subjects including science, art, English and maths for many years to come. It is a lovely asset to our school grounds.”
