What has a BAFTA recipient, an actress from TV's Shameless and a Newark estate got in common? They all star in a short film highlighting the perils of anti-social behaviour which was premiered at Newark's Palace Theatre this week.
Newark and Sherwood Homes and Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) have come up with an innovative way to deter young people from becoming involved in anti social behaviour. Support and funding has come from NCHA as well as tenants and partners Newark and Sherwood District Council,The Police, and Notts County Council.
The story of the film was developed to make young people aware of what could happen to their parents tenancy if they commit acts of anti social behaviour. It involves Ryan (played by BAFTA award winning child actor Elliot Otis Brown Walters) - a youngster who hangs around with a gang and becomes unruly and difficult.
The film follows Ryan’s journey into anti social behaviour, ending with his family being evicted from their home. Ryan’s Mum is played by Shameless actress Ester Coles. The film also stars people from the community and professionals enacting their own roles including housing and police officers.
Enjoying the red carpet treatment on Wednesday night were members of the teams who joined in partnership to create the film as well as the members of the cast.
