The foundations being laid and early work being undertaken on Stanhope's last phase
The final phase of the Stanhope regeneration project in Ashford, Kent, has begun. Construction teams are working on the foundations of the new homes which are set to be completed by May 2012.
The final phase will deliver 32 affordable homes and will cost a total of £3,170,000. Some 21 homes will be available for general needs rent while six will be delivered through the New Build HomeBuy scheme. The remaining five homes will be for intermediate rent.
Driven by the Chrysalis consortium, the regeneration of Stanhope has so far taken four years and will cost £150 million in total. This particular regeneration project is notable for the involvement that residents of the original neighbourhood had in the design of their new community. Moat, the housing association partner of the Chrysalis consortium, prides itself on resident involvement and delivering desirable, sustainable communities. Stanhope has won a number of awards including the Best Urban Regeneration Project award at the First Time Buyer Awards in 2010 and the Regeneration Team Of The Year award at the Housing Heroes Awards in 2009.
Pam Millington, Moat’s Area Business Manager for Medway and Stanhope, says; “It is great to see the final phase of Stanhope get underway. I know that many residents of the area have watched this redevelopment gradually take shape and I am sure that they are all very excited to see the finished product.”
The Stanhope regeneration began after a 30 year PFI contract was signed with Ashford Borough Council in 2007. The Chrysalis consortium comprises Gleeson Capital Solutions, Nationwide Commercial and Moat. The contractor for new buildings and refurbishments is Denne Construction, part of the Leadbitter Group, while Lovell Respond is contracted to carry out repairs and maintenance.
