Goole 'Changing Streets'
Saint-Gobain Weber, a leading player in the construction products industry and a recognised manufacturer of innovative products in the external wall insulation, renders, flooring, tile fixing and construction mortars sectors, has received national recognition from the National Insulation Association (NIA) for its key role in a large housing refurbishment project.
Saint-Gobain Weber won the ‘Best Hard to Treat Project’ Award for its involvement in the ‘Changing Streets’ scheme in Goole, Yorkshire. Here, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has undertaken the regeneration of 53 entire streets of more than 2,000 solid wall, so called hard to treat homes, using the unique BBA certified weber.therm XP External Wall Insulation solution. Heat loss has been slashed to a U-value of just 0.32 W/m2.K and the low maintenance, through-coloured, one coat render finish has totally transformed the visual aesthetics of these properties and dramatically revitalised the entire area. Residents had the choice of five different pastel shades to choose for their homes.
Judges at the NIA, the organisation that represents over 90% of the UK’s home insulation industry, including installers and manufacturers, commented: “This is an excellent example of how ‘seeing is believing’ and this project has given the town of Goole a brand new appearance and significantly lower energy bills.”
Where refurbishment of older solid wall properties, which represent around 25% of Britain’s housing stock, require thermal upgrade, the weber.therm EWI system can achieve extremely low U-values without reducing the internal dimensions of the living space or disrupting existing residents. The attractive render finishes will upgrade the appearance of run-down areas while improving thermal performance that will reduce heating costs and carbon emissions.
Nick Eaton, Market Manager, External Wall Insulation, Saint-Gobain Weber, received the award presented by Neil Marshall, Chief Executive, NIA.
