In the annual Insulated Render & Cladding Association (INCA) Award 2010, Saint-Gobain Weber has won the Best Residential Low Rise Refurbishment award for the Cross Keys Homes project in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
“This is the second main industry Award that Weber has won during 2010 for our innovative weber.therm EWI systems,” says Mark Weaver, Marketing Manager, Saint-Gobain Weber. “Celebrations aside, external insulation onto solid walls will play a pivotal role in delivering the Government’s green strategy as the UK works towards an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.”
He continues: “The market is becoming increasingly competitive and winning major industry awards such as INCA and the equivalent NIA award helps Saint-Gobain Weber to stand out from the rest.”
The properties in Peterborough are managed by Cross Keys Homes, the housing association created to take over Peterborough Council’s housing stock in 2000. Some 600 homes have undergone improvements in a multi-million pound project that has benefited from £1m worth of support secured by Saint-Gobain Weber from the CERT funding initiative. While main contractor Mears has renewed roofs, windows and doors, applicator Retrofit UK Limited has handled £3.75m worth of weber.therm External Wall Insulation (EWI) installations.
These properties have been transformed into warm and attractive homes placing particular emphasis upon thermal performance and cold bridging detail. weber.therm XM EWI was applied over the original brick construction, incorporating 80mm of phenolic insulation, meshcloth and through-colour decorative render finish which has achieved a U-value of 0.35 W/m².K.
A number of finishes to the weber.therm XM EWI system have been used in various phases of the Cross Keys refurbishment scheme in order to create different visuals complimentary to the original facades including render, brick slip and render brick. Intricate brick detailing around windows and doors has been applied using weber.therm XM with RB render which achieves striking results and an authentic brick look-alike appearance.
Saint-Gobain Weber was also Highly Commended by INCA for the Cross Keys Homes Mount Stephens Road project in which traditional brick homes were refurbished using the weber.therm XM EWI system with RB render to achieve a U-value of 0.35 W/m².K and an authentic brick effect finish with applicator Lawtech Limited.
