Ashton-under-Lyne based New Charter Homes has been shortlisted from almost 300 entries to the 2011 Housing Heroes Awards in two categories.

A Revenues Team with a focus on financial inclusion and a rising star whose career has gone from strength-to-strength are both among hopefuls at this year’s awards – dubbed ‘the housing Oscars.’

New Charter’s Revenues Team is one of a handful left in the running for the Financial Team of the Year, and hoping to be crowned Career Development Star is Wages Clerk Vickie Dawson who overcame homelessness to kick-start a successful career with the company.

The event is organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and attracted an amazing response with submissions from the length and breadth of the UK.

New Charter’s Chief Executive Director Ian Munro said:  “We’ve always known that there are unsung housing heroes here at New Charter and these nominations confirm that.

“I wish both nominees the best of luck.”

The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on 20 May hosted by TV news presenter George Alagiah.

Last year almost 800 people attended making it the biggest award ceremony in the social housing calendar.

Paddy Gray, President of the Chartered Institute of Housing, said that with over 30 years in housing he has been privileged to be associated with many heroes right across the UK and beyond.   He added:  “I am delighted at the high standard of entries to this award and I would like to extend my appreciation on behalf of the housing profession to those who continue to make a positive difference to people’s lives.”
