Local Credit Union services are set to become county-wide, covering Gloucester, Stroud and the Forest of Dean.

Gloucestershire Credit Union has been created to provide financial services such as affordable loans and savings facilities to the whole county following the redeployment of funding from the Department for Work and Pensions.

Margaret Knight   from Gloucestershire Credit Union said:

“Anyone who works or lives in Gloucestershire will be able to benefit from the new service which will cost just £4 to join and will offer a flexible affordable payment plan. We’re grateful to all the partner organisations including Two Rivers Housing for supporting this new venture and we hope that people county-wide will be able to benefit.”

Two Rivers Housing is one of several local organisations supporting the creation of the new Credit Union and has offered to support the establishment of the new county-wide service by providing two computers and office space so Credit Union staff can collect payments locally for people living in the Forest of Dean.

Karen Beard, Income Collection Coordinator at Two Rivers Housing added:

“We’re excited to be part of setting up this vital county-wide service. We’re keen to support valuable services, such as this which will help people manage their money as well as access small low-cost loans when they need them, without turning to unlicensed lenders. Our ethos has always been to make sure important advice and information is accessible as such we continue to fund a CAB debt advisor who can offer free advice to local people.”
