A £5 million development of new affordable homes is nearing completion at Burton Latimer near Kettering in Northamptonshire.

Built on a brownfield site which was formerly industrial warehousing, Hillary Close off Pioneer Avenue, comprises  37 homes close to the centre of the market town.  The scheme has 29 homes for rent, and eight for shared ownership with a mix of apartments and houses.

All the houses boast photovoltaics which will provide cheaper and more energy-efficient hot water.  The apartments have Air Source heat pumps to provide similar energy-efficient heating and hot water.

Built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, all have low energy light fittings throughout - and for those who want to travel energy efficiently there are cycle storage facilities.

Funding for the scheme has been divided equally between the Homes & Communities Agency and Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA).  Contractors are Westleigh Ltd. and the consulting architect is the Brian Dearlove Partnership.

NCHA will act as landlord for the tenants who will all come from the housing list of Kettering Borough Council which has had a pressing need for affordable housing in that part of the Borough.

Kettering Borough Council's Housing Strategy and Options manager, Sue Hottinger had this to say "As the demand for affordable housing in Kettering Borough is increasing, this development will bring much needed new affordable homes to Burton Latimer, and is the first development of its kind to be completed in the town for several years."
