Today, the National Land Information Service (NLIS) celebrates its ten year anniversary.  Since its founding in February 2001, NLIS has delivered official electronically sourced land and property searches through its channels to solicitors and licensed conveyancers.   The NLIS Hub is connected to all local authorities in England and Wales, Land Registry, the Coal Authority and other sources of land and property information. Since it began operation over 19 million searches have been processed by the NLIS Hub.

Jan Boothroyd, Chief Executive of Land Data, the company which manages and regulates NLIS commented: “Over the past ten years, the role of NLIS has changed from innovator to leader, supporting conveyancers as they move from a manual to an electronic search environment.  In the last six months we have seen growth in the NLIS market and as we enter a new decade, I’m proud to see NLIS is still leading the way.”

To kick off its 10th year, NLIS has revamped its website www.nlis.org.uk, which launches today and a new MyNLIS level 2 website, aimed specifically for local authorities.  Kate Crook NLIS Hub manager said:  “We are really pleased with the new MyNLIS website which has been created in direct response to feedback received from local authorities.  It has greater functionality and new reporting features which local authorities will find enormously useful.”

Anniversary celebrations will commence at the annual Local Land Charges Conference in Bristol on 15th February and at the Land Data Local Land Charges Awards on 16th February.

Notes to Editors

Land Data regulates NLIS under an agreement made in 1999 with local government to fulfil objective 43 of the Modernising Government Action Plan and carries the sole mandate for NLIS commercialisation. IDeA established Land Data to serve the interests of the general public by making authoritative property search information accessible to all, whilst at the same time improving the home buying and selling process. Land Data fulfils this remit by promoting official electronically sourced land and property searches via NLIS, throughout England and Wales. The NLIS Hub is electronically connected to all local authorities in England and Wales, Land Registry, the Coal Authority and other sources of land and property data, the information is distributed by NLIS Channels to solicitors and licensed conveyancers.  Since it began operation in 2001, over 19 million searches have been processed by the NLIS Hub.
