Since transferring to the Community Gateway Association (CGA) in 2005, one of the main promises made with residents was to complete improvements to their homes.

The improvement programme has been the single biggest project undertaken and tenants have been at the heart of the decision making process from the start.

The Gateway Tenants’ Committee working with residents groups and members developed the Gateway Homes Standard.

Exceeding the governments decent homes standard, residents chose to improve the specification in a number of areas.  This included upgraded bathrooms, kitchens and heating systems.

The 5-year programme completed on target achieved the following improvements:

  • 5700 doors
  • 2000 double glazed windows
  • 3500 central heating
  • 22m worth, of roofing works
  • 5000+ kitchens
  • 5000+ bathrooms
  • 100 BISF properties

The overall investment of £115 million pounds has transformed properties and neighbourhoods.

The final work completed were the BISF (British Iron and Steel Foundation) homes, which have had a stunning makeover.

Anthony Duerden, Head of Property Services commenting, "We are all really proud at CGA that we have delivered the promises we made to residents at the time of transfer. The improvements made to our residents’ homes has made a huge difference to their standard of living.  Resident feedback has been really positive and we would like to thank all of them for their patience while we completed this amount of work"

"Work does not stop now, we are currently finalising a new programme for the next five years, which will improve and maintain homes and neighbourhoods further."

I would like to thank our partners Bramall and HT Forrest for the hard work they have completed throughout the project.”

Rose Kinsella Chair of CGA's Board said "The improvement programme was our most important promise to residents. As a tenant and Chair of the Board I am proud to say that we have kept that promise and the results are fantastic. Our partners have done a brilliant job and colleagues in our property services team have worked very hard to make sure the project finished on time"
