Young People set to Benefit from New Service

YOUNG people across are set to get involved in a host of exciting projects following the launch of a new youth service in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
New Charter’s brand new Youth Team will be working with young people between the ages of 8 and 19 in areas of need throughout the borough.
Working closely with partners like Groundwork, Tameside’s youth services, Greater Manchester Police and the Primary Care Trust, the team will provide activities and events aimed at recruiting and training young volunteers in the community.
The hope is that parents and volunteers who are involved will then organise their own activities and projects.
The project work will enable young people to gain certificates and rewards for their efforts.
The team already has big plans for the future including developing up a youth forum for young New Charter residents and working closely with the New Charter Academy.
The team will also be continuing New Charter’s work with groups like the Dreamscheme, which culminated in children and young people from New Charter estates scooping a prestigious bronze award at the Royal Horticultural Society flower show at Tatton Park.
New Charter’s Youth Work Co-ordinator Chris Odell, said: “Working with young people in regeneration areas, we’re aiming to engage young people in activities and community events and give them the opportunity to have a real impact on their own communities”.
“With the right support from new Charter it won’t be long until the first wave of volunteers is putting on their own events and inspiring the next generation.”
New Charter’s Executive Director of Neighbourhoods Tony Powell, added: “The youth team’s work wouldn’t be possible without the commitment of tenants - this will have a positive impact on their communities.
“We’re privileged to be working such enthusiastic groups of young people.”
