Elderly residents in a retirement housing scheme in Marlborough are mastering the art of video gaming in support of Wiltshire’s No Barriers to Disability Week 29 – 5 December.

Residents at York Place, run by Sarsen Housing Association, are taking part in a Wii bowling competition.

The winners will be announced at a fundraising tea party at the Cheese Hall in December by Bjorn Howard, group chief executive of the Aster Group – Sarsen’s parent company.

Money raised will go towards the PHAB Club, which is hoping to gain enough funding to buy a community bus for the disabled.

Residents are taking part in the Wii competitions to increase awareness of disabilities and to prove that it should not be a barrier to everyday living.

Organisations across Wiltshire are getting on board to mark the week, which is being led by Wiltshire Council.

Scott Simmons, Sarsen’s involvement worker said: “Residents can get involved with No Barriers Week from the comfort of their own home. The stretching and hand-eye co-ordination keeps both their bodies and minds active.”

Sarsen’s retirement housing lets people enjoy their retirement and keep their independence, without the worry of home security and maintenance. For more information call 01380 735383.
