BHP Launch
The Chair of Brent Housing Partnership, Kathy Ellison, formally launched the partnership between the Brent Housing Partnership and Ealing Credit Union.
The partnership provides for £24,000 of funding to enable the credit union to effectively market its services to tenants and staff of BHP.
Mrs. Ellison related the history of the credit union project which began with her and other Board members attending a conference in 2008. Later that year Credit Union Solutions were invited to speak to an away day for the Board after which the Board formerly agreed to either establish their own credit union or make a partnership with a neighbouring credit union.
After much deliberation and delays caused by the lack of progress with the Legislative Reform Order, Ealing Credit Union agreed to extend their common bond to include the London Borough of Brent. The new common bond was approved in the summer of 2010.
The launch was attended by the Mayor of Brent Cllr. Singh, a number of members of the BHP Board and staff, volunteers from Ealing Credit Union and Jill Oswell and Graham Tomlin from Credit Union Solutions.
Mrs. Ellison enthusiastically looked forward to promoting the credit union to tenants and to working with schools to set up savings clubs.
Graham Tomlin from Credit Union Solutions said.
“This whole process has taken two years because of the delays to the Legislative Reform Order and it is a credit to Kathy Ellison and BHP that they did not just give it up as a bad job. Their perseverance has enabled this partnership to develop and will ensure its success.
Ealing Credit Union will be richer by the addition of new volunteers from Brent thereby strengthening the corporate governance of Ealing Credit Union.”
