What is the BTEC Level 7 Advanced Professional Diploma in Neighbourhood Justice?
This new, fully accredited and internationally recognised BTEC qualification is currently the highest academic qualification in the National Programme of BTEC Qualifications in Neighbourhood Justice.
Successfully completing this Diploma means that you will have proven highly developed and complex levels of knowledge, enabling you to develop original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations. It is appropriate for existing or aspiring senior professionals or managers.
You can take any of the Units of the Diploma in any order - this includes the New York Study trip.
The next study visit to New York, USA will be on the 15th to 21st February 2011.
What will I need to do to complete the Diploma?
The Diploma consists of 220 hours of guided learning, made up from 8 mandatory units. These units are essentially a composite of three existing BTEC qualifications plus a study trip to New York, USA, culminating in a dissertation. These units can be taken over a number of terms over a period of up to three years.
If you have already completed any of the units with Safety Net Associates previously these will count toward the overall Diploma and you will not need to re-take them.

On completion of units 1 - 5 students can be awarded the Level 3 BTEC Advanced Award in Neighbourhood Nuisance and Anti Social Behaviour Case Working.
06 - Supervision of Case Workers
On completion of unit 6 students can be awarded the Level 5 BTEC Professional Award in Neighbourhood Nuisance and Anti Social Behaviour Case Work Supervision.
07 - Restorative Justice Approaches
On completion of unit 7 students can be awarded the Level 4 BTEC Professional Award in Restorative Justice Approaches
08 - Field study trip to New York, USA including supervised visits and dissertation
On completion of unit 8 students can be awarded a Research Study unit Certificate

What will be covered on the study visit to New York?
There is a great video now on our website that illustrates the background of the Centre for Court Innovation along with the work that they carry out. This forms the back bone of the study visit and is an excellent starting point. Whilst in New York you will also be able to use the resources of the world famous John Jay College of Criminal Justice Library. What is included in the cost of the study visit?
The study visit is a supervised visit that is hosted in partnership between Safety Net Associates and the Centre for Court Innovation. Included in the cost of the visit are:
- Flights to and from New York, via British Airways
- Accommodation for the duration of the study visit at the four star Hilton, Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel in Midtown, New York.
- Private transport between all visits whilst in New York.
- All visit costs including supervised visits, guides and membership to the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Library.
- A daily food allowance to cover meals for the duration of the visit
- All BTEC materials, assessment, accreditation and certification costs
I have missed the current term dates for some of the units can I still do the Diploma?
Yes. The National Programme of BTEC qualifications are an ongoing programme. We hold regular terms for each qualification and as you do not have to do the units in any particular order you can join at any time. I would like to take part in this - what do I need to do now?
Firstly you will need to let us know that you are interested. We will not reserve your place or book any flights or accommodation until you have officially enrolled but for planning purposes we need to know if you would like to take part.
When is the latest I need to book for the next study visit?
In order for us to guarantee that you will be able to attend the February 2011 study visit you must have formally booked before the 23rd of December 2010. This will allow us to book your flights and accommodation and ensure that there is enough space on the specific study visits. Please note that we are limited to how many can attend the next study visit and places will be issued on a first come first served basis.
Remember, the units can be taken in any order and we still have space available on the next study visit in February 2011.
