Community heroes from across Knowsley attended the KHT Community Impact Awards at Aintree Racecourse on Tuesday night.

The awards, now in their fourth year, celebrate the work of KHT customers and staff in making Knowsley a place where people are proud to live and work.

The event was compered by Big Brother winner and television presenter Craig Phillips, with performances from X Factor finalist Laura White.

Craig said: “The people that have been honoured here tonight are very inspiring. These are the people that come together to make a strong community.

“I grew up in Seaforth, but it was not until I was older that I realised what a strong sense of community it has and how important that is.

“That is what I have seen tonight and it is great that people are recognised for their community work.”

Other winners included Knowsley Mutual Credit Union, which was named Community Organisation of the Year, Four Seasons Residents’ Association, which picked up the Resident Association of the Year award, Joe Shackley, KHT Employee of the Year, and Cathy Phillips, who won the award for Resident of the Year.

Green-fingered residents were also awarded for their contribution to the environment in Knowsley in KHT’s Growing for Gold gardening competition.

And a special award was presented to KHT’s longest-serving member of staff, Housing Officer Tom Brannan), for his 45 years with company.

KHT chief executive Bob Taylor said: “We are all in this together, whether you live in our communities or work for KHT. We couldn’t do it without you.

“We are redeveloping neighbourhoods to provide places where people are proud to live. It is about building firm foundations for tomorrow.

“We are about providing life-changing opportunities, by giving the chance of a home, a job or training.

“I meet a lot of people all over Knowsley and I never fail to be amazed by the enthusiasm that goes into the community.

“Everything we do is about people, because together we can achieve anything.”
