So-called hard to heat homes that have little or no insulation are being renovated daily.  While the structures are, in the main, relatively sound they have little capacity to retain warmth resulting in problems of damp and condensation as well as high heating costs and carbon emissions.  Not good for residents and homeowners – or for our planet.

To the rescue is Weber, the leading manufacturer in façade materials, and their innovative External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.  Using External Wall Insulation will not only dramatically improve the thermal performance of your home but simultaneously revitalise the appearance of your property and its kerb-side appeal.  Weber EWI systems have long held NSAI accreditation in the construction market in Ireland.

Consider that an unfilled cavity wall house can lose approximately 35% of heat through its walls while solid wall homes will lose as much as 45% heat through untreated walls.  So now really is the time to prepare for the coming winter and help save on your energy consumption and costs.

Weber External Wall Insulation has other benefits.  By insulating externally you will not lose internal living space and while work is carried out to the exterior walls any disruption to your household is minimised.  The risk of condensation within the wall structure is eliminated and a waterproof, attractive and low maintenance new exterior finish quite literally wraps your property in warmth and comfort.  At the same time, other trades can work alongside this retrofit work if you are planning to replace windows and guttering.

Specialists in the application of Weber External Wall Insulation systems are Durkan Ecofix, part of the Durkan Residential Group, a family business established over 40 years ago.  Ecofix was formed to specifically provide a home service to the strong retrofit industry and is one of the largest players in the insulation products sector.

There are a number of finishes that can be applied to the Weber External Wall Insulation including traditional render, acrylic coating, dry dash aggregate and brick effect render options allowing you the flexibility to match or compliment neighbouring properties.  Finishes using special brick slips – this is the weber.therm XB system – are popular but a brick-effect can also be achieved using two coats of Weber render – this is the weber.rend RB system – and replicating standard mortar joint patterns will produce a very powerful and convincing brick finish.

“A typical semi detached property can take around three weeks to complete,” says Paul Quinn, Durkan Ecofix.  “We provide a professional service and deliver workmanship and attention to detail that achieves a high quality finish that our customers enjoy.”

“Our Weber-trained technicians actually prefer the brick-effect render system even though it’s slower to install than a real brick slip.  The ‘brick’ becomes a part of the render system so you know it’s there to stay!”
