LMH explained how children can help their communities
Liverpool’s largest housing association has gone back to school to teach children how they can help their community.
Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) took part in Broadgreen International School’s ‘Meet Your Community Day’ to inform students about the work it carries out in local neighbourhoods across the city.
LMH had a stand at the school’s community day with two of its construction contractors – Kinetics and Mitie - and together they explained to students how they can get involved in helping their local areas and how their involvement can make a difference.
Students from years 7, 8 and 9 visited the stand to ask questions with LMH staff explaining how they work in partnership with contractors and other agencies to raise awareness of the services it offers tenants and community groups in Liverpool such as grants for projects, financial advice and help sourcing a variety of benefits.
Director of Housing and Neighbourhood Services at LMH, Angela Forshaw, said: “We carry out a lot of work to involve tenants and the wider community but it is very important that we also spend time educating youngsters and explaining how they can shape the community they live in.
“We work very closely with our tenants and residents to make sure we are providing the services they want and need as we continue to improve their neighbourhoods into places they are proud of.”
Broadgreen International School's Sonia Cross said: "Our recent Meet Your Community Day was a huge success. We had generous support from a whole range of different organisations including Liverpool Mutual Homes.
"The day gave our students a great opportunity to meet local employers and agencies and to learn about what they do. It also highlighted how the actions of young people can impact upon the community.
"In addition the day gave our students the chance to come up with various ideas as to how they could get involved in their local community and also gave them a chance to voice their opinions for things that need to change within their school, neighbourhood and citywide community."
