A Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) tenant has been jailed after victimising an elderly community with his persistent anti-social behaviour.

Anthony Williams, aged 45, was sentenced to four months in prison at Liverpool County Court.

Williams was jailed for breaching an interim Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction (ASBI) when acting aggressively towards LMH staff at a previous court hearing in April and for making life a misery for elderly tenants at Carnarvon Court, Walton, where he lived with his mother.

Sentencing Williams, District Judge Heyworth also granted a full Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction (ASBI) with the power of arrest lasting for three years along with a three-year exclusion order for Carnarvon Road and Carnarvon Court with the powers of arrest.

Despite Carnarvon Court being a sheltered housing scheme consisting predominantly of elderly residents - the oldest being 91-years-old - Williams persistently intimidated tenants, behaved in a drunk and disorderly manner, was abusive and threatening towards LMH staff, and attracted unsavoury characters to the area.

Despite several warnings, Williams failed to moderate his behaviour or leave the sheltered scheme, leading LMH to take legal action to provide relief for what are some of our community’s most vulnerable members.

Director of Housing and Neighbourhood Services, Angela Forshaw, said: “Williams’ behaviour has been appalling and despite the efforts of our staff to help him he continued to act in a way that is simply not going to be tolerated by LMH.

“We are building communities where people are proud to live and have respect for their neighbours and homes, and we will use all remedies available to us to deal with anyone found to be making life a misery for others.

“I hope this case gives any other tenants that might be suffering anti-social behaviour the confidence to report it to us and our partners, safe in the knowledge that we will act on it quickly and in a tough and fair way.”
