Shoreline support officers, Stratford House residents and local schoolchildren prepare for Grimsby In Bloom
Green-fingered schoolchildren have transformed the garden of a local sheltered housing scheme in time for this years’ Grimsby In Bloom competition.
Thanks to £500 of funding from Inspiring Communities, the team of pupils joined residents of Shoreline Housing Partnership’s Stratford House for a morning of planting and creating hanging baskets, floral displays and colourful window boxes.
The project brought an extra helping of community spirit as well as colour to the neighbourhood, much to the delight of the residents.
Stratford House tenant Maggie Jacklin said: “It was a wonderful morning, the children have done a marvellous job”
Shoreline Extra Care support officer Julie Hammond said: “The visit by the children has been wonderful. They all arrived with a smile on their face, carrying boxes of plants, happy and eager to help the residents. They are a credit to their parents and school.
“We’ve been working closely with the school to bring the two communities together and lots of laughter could be heard from both the children and residents.”
West End Schools’ co-coordinator Ann Green added: “Having access to the Inspiring Communities funding has greatly increased the extended school provision in the whole of the Freshney and West Marsh area, I am very pleased to be able to assist the schools and communities in this way.”
The finished garden is now entered into the window boxes and hanging basket section of the Grimsby In Bloom competition with judging taking place later this month.
