Liverpool-based PVC-U and aluminium fabricator Total Glass has added a stylish new range of PVC-U vertical sliding sash windows to its expanding product portfolio for both the trade and commercial sectors.

Introduced in response to rising customer demand, the attractive and popular window style is manufactured in-house to top specifications and offered with ‘A’ to ‘C’ rated glazing options.

Combining the latest, thermally-efficient window technology with the traditional appearance of a sash window, the elegant sculptured frame, low-line beads and Georgian bar of the vertical sliders fully integrate with any other PVC-U window in the Total Glass range.

Optional RAL colour foils are also available to suit any installation project, whether for period home or heritage renovations or a simple replacement for a single frame sash window. All windows incorporate a tilt facility to the top and bottom sash as standard, allowing for ease of cleaning and ventilation. Security features include an anti-jemmy aluminium security bar and key locking catches.

To cope with extra production levels, Total Glass has invested in a new Dubus 801 machining centre with a five-degree angle for VS cutting. Although dedicated to vertical slider and composite door production, the equipment spreads work across their three machining centres and builds in flexibility to lift overall PVC-U window production capacity by several hundred windows per week.

Total Group Managing Director Frank Deary says: “Customers’ awareness of modern vertical sliding windows has grown and we were certainly getting more inquiries in recent months than ever before. There has been tremendous interest, both from trade customers, as well as from local authorities and housing associations for whom this aesthetically-pleasing, traditional window style is the ideal solution for conservation areas.

“With some of our social housing clients involved in the refurbishment of older properties in these conservation areas, it made sense for us to offer vertical sliders for this growing requirement. Additionally, introducing our own VS range not only gives us complete control of quality, but also reduces lead times so our customers get them faster,” adds Frank.

Older terraced and semi-detached homes in the leafy Liverpool suburbs of Halewood and Woolton - both conservation areas - are among the first to benefit from the Total Glass vertical sliding windows. Liverpool currently has 35 conservation areas protecting buildings with a special architectural or historic interest.

Total is supplying 500 white vertical sliding windows for its established housing association client Liverpool Mutual Homes, which is undertaking a city-wide multi-million pound refurbishment scheme of its 14,000 social homes. A number of these are within protected neighbourhoods and window replacements are required to meet the associated strict specification criteria and extra planning controls

As identical ‘like-for-like’ replacements for end-of-life timber sash windows, the modern PVC-U equivalents are providing an aesthetic, thermally-efficient and secure solution for residents in the Halewood Road, Halewood Drive and Huntscross Avenue areas in the first phase of the on-going upgrading programme.
