Garry King, Two Rivers’ CEO headed ‘back to the floor’ earlier this week, to experience life on the frontline as a community support worker. This unique experience gave Garry the opportunity to roll up his sleeves and gain first hand appreciation of the daily challenges of the job.
Meanwhile, Gina Facchiano, a Community Support Worker at Two Rivers was given a role reversal opportunity enabling her to taste life at the top of the organisation, albeit for one day.
A finalist of the Inspirational Leader of the Year, National Housing Heroes Awards 2010, Garry believes there is no better way to engage and empathise with staff than to walk a mile in their shoes.
Two Rivers values the commitment staff give to the organisation and in return invests over £65k annually in education, training and mentoring of staff.
Garry said,
‘I thoroughly enjoyed our 'job swap' and was impressed with Gina’s approach to her work in the community and her professionalism on the day. She is an excellent ambassador for Two Rivers and held in high regard by residents. Gina was a tough act to follow, but my experience has reaffirmed that social investment generates a social dividend that with the right support can benefit the whole community. I would like to thank the Rowandean residents for the warm welcome I received on the day.’
Gina added,
‘What a fantastic experience. I was nervous at first but everyone really made me feel welcome and gave me the confidence to get involved in senior management meetings. Our residents really enjoyed meeting Garry and have told me he really fitted into the role.’
