The International Union of Tenants (IUT) has appointed Phil Morgan, former TSA Executive Director for Tenant Services, as Chair for its triennial Congress later this year.
The Congress is due to be held in Prague on October 1 to 3 and will feature tenants from across the globe including Australia, Japan and Africa. The IUT is the international umbrella body for tenant organisations and is active in the European Parliament.
Magnus Hammar, IUT General Secretary said: “I’m delighted that Phil has accepted this challenge – he was the Vice Chair at the last Congress in Berlin and is well known to the delegates."
Phil Morgan added: “I am honoured that the IUT has asked me to chair the Congress – I’ve attended the last four and know it is the only occasion when tenants from around the world have an opportunity to exchange experiences about what it is like to be a tenant”.
Phil Morgan’s appointment is not the only English connection – Richard Hewgill, TPAS Director is also the Vice President of the IUT.
Richard Hewgill said: “The IUT has a vital role to play both in Europe and beyond in making the case for access to social housing and the role of tenants.
"The Congress allows us the opportunity to bring the voices of tenants to bear in making that case”.
