Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) has paid £15,000 so a charity can give more help to homeless children.

Helen Knott now works as a project support officer in the children’s service at Shelter’s office in Prescot, where she is in direct contact with families in danger of losing their home.

Helen, who is married with a 10-year-old daughter, has been employed part-time for Shelter since December last year but, thanks to the funding from KHT, went full-time in April.

The 39-year-old previously worked at Shelter’s Liverpool office before moving to Prescot.  She has been nominated for Celebrating Achievement, the homelessness and housing charity’s quarterly internal award.

Team leader Claire White said: “Helen is very organised and popular and is really good to work with so we are delighted that she will be with us full time from now on.”

Helen, who lives in Birkenhead, said: “I love working for Shelter, but I am only doing my job.

“The support from Knowsley Housing Trust has made a huge difference and I am delighted that I will be able to continue helping families that are in need.”

The Prescot office, which opened in December 2008, gives one-to-one support to children and provides trips to safari parks and theme parks like Camelot. Shelter also helps children to eat healthily and improve their body image.

So far this year the office has dealt directly with 35 children from Knowsley and given advice and guidance to a further 200.
