Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) and one of its partners is helping a Liverpool primary school for children with learning difficulties improve its outdoor activity area.

Princes Primary School in Toxteth is holding the community event on 14 and 15 April and is being supported by LMH and asset and facilities management services specialist, Kinetics Group.

The school caters for children with severe learning difficulties and some of the children also have cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.

The outdoor activity area is vital to the health, well-being and education of all the children at the school and will assist them with their fantastic Eco Action Plan.

As well as volunteers needed over the two action days, people are also asked to donate outdoor shrubs and plants to help develop the area and attract wildlife for children to enjoy and learn about.

LMH is also supporting the school with financial support through its West Area Community Initiative Fund money from which will be used to create a sensory garden and a vegetable garden where the children can grow and cook their own produce.

The fund will also allow more flowers, bird boxes and shrubs to be bought to encourage wildlife into the grounds.

LMH Chief Executive, Steve Coffey, is taking part in the event and said: “The outdoor activity centre will make a huge difference to the children’s education with practical facilities like this allowing them to take a hands-on approach while learning important issues such as healthy eating, nature and sustainability.

“We have given the school a grant through our West Area Community Initiative Fund to develop its facilities and hope people will be able to spend some time over the two days to lend a hand to improve the school for the children.”

Karen Bentham at Kinetics, said: “We are really committed to this exciting partnership project at Princes Primary School and hope as many people as possible are able to come along and help.

“It is a great cause and we are also expecting it to be a lot of fun, cleaning, painting and generally improving the school with the pupils.”

Work is due to start at 9.30am and finish at 4pm and anyone wanting to volunteer should contact Dave Pye at LMH on 07595 651345 or Karen Bentham at Kinetics Group on 07827 350496.
