Awel y Môr Consultation Underway

Conwy’s Cabinet have given the go-ahead for the latest phase of the Review of Residential Homes.
The formal consultation on the proposed remodelling or rebuilding of Awel y Môr Residential Home to turn it into a new Extra Care Housing scheme for Abergele, in partnership with North Wales Housing Association, will start next month.
This is the eighth phase of the Council’s Residential Homes Review - looking at ways of modernising and improving services.
The staff at Awel y Môr Residential Home currently provide an excellent and caring service to those in need, but they are sited in a large purpose built residential home that is of traditional design with 32 rooms over two floors. The building is dated and currently has four further rooms not being utilised as they are too small to meet present day care standards
The Cabinet have agreed that consultation can take place on
proposals that
offer the opportunity to remodel or rebuild Awel y Môr to
provide approximately 43 one and two bedroom extra care apartments.
Potential options include:
• The construction of a new build extension and the
redesign and refurbishment of the existing residential home into a
single Extra Care facility or
• The complete rebuild of a purposely designed ECH scheme on
the site
The new ECH scheme would provide the existing range of facilities currently available at Awel y Môr including 24-hour care, plus additional ones
The consultation with stakeholders, including service-users, their carers, staff, local councillors and key agencies in the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors will start on 1st April and will run until 28th May.
