Safety Net Associates, the providers of the first and only National Programme of BTEC Qualifications in ASB Case working and Approaches to Restorative Justice, today launched the "National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC Student of the Year Award 2009". The winning student of the award, subtitled "The Big Apple" will be sent to New York, USA for a five day fully funded study visit.

The official study visit will be supervised by academic staff and the Mayor of New York's Office. The purpose of the study visit is to research and compare the differences between anti social behaviour and restorative justice approaches in neighbourhoods in the UK and the USA.

This research trip to New York City will take place from 16th February, returning to the UK on Monday 22nd February 2010.

The Student of the Years' New York City research project findings will also be presented to the Home Secretary for consideration.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all BTEC students who have studied or are currently studying the following qualifications in 2009:

~BTEC Advanced Award in Neighbourhood Nuisance & Anti-Social Behaviour Case working - Level 3 Practitioner course.

~BTEC Professional Award in Neighbourhood Nuisance & Anti-Social Behaviour Case work Supervision - Level 5 Managers course.

~BTEC Professional Award in Restorative Justice Approaches - Level 4 Senior Practitioner course.

Bob Kennett, Academic Director of Safety Net Associates said:
"This prestigious award and important piece of research work is deliberately designed each year to encourage all students to continue their studies or to join the National Neighbourhood Justice BTEC programme. I would urge all practitioners and organisations to get involved in the National programme in 2010."

All completed application forms must be submitted by 1700 hours Friday 15th January 2009.
