A burglar was caught in the act by a quick thinking Invicta Telecare operator, Lauren Measter, forcing them to flee empty handed.

Part of Circle Anglia, Invicta Telecare is the largest independent provider of Telecare services in the UK, delivering peace of mind and reassurance to over 95,000 vulnerable people who want to remain living independently in their own home.

Lauren who works in the busy monitoring centre at Basted House received an emergency call at a flat in Maidstone. She was unable to get a response from the resident but could hear banging in the background.

Fearing the resident may need help she announced via the alarm unit which is clearly audible throughout the flat that she was going to call an ambulance. Listening for any signs of a response she picked up voices and heard “Derrick, they’re going to call an Ambulance, let’s go” and realised that the property was actually being broken into.

She called the police immediately giving full details about the burglary and they attended with blue lights flashing.

Wendy Turner, Invicta Telecare’s Operation Director said “The intruders had obviously pulled the alarm pull cord mistaking it for a light cord. When the police arrived they confirmed a break in via a window which had been smashed. We arranged for it to be repaired and the flat to be made secure, and contacted the owner to inform him about the situation. If Lauren hadn’t used her initiative the burglars would probably have completely ransacked the place and stolen items of value.”
