Residents to select Dundee estate regeneration contractor

Affordable housing provider Home Scotland is inviting residents to take part in the selection of the contractor who will begin the multi-million pound regeneration of a Dundee estate.
 

Following the approval of the master-plan for Mill O’ Mains, Home Scotland has now submitted a planning application for the first phase of the regeneration scheme, which will see 64 new homes being built for rent between Gruinard Terrace and Mull Terrace, Barra Terrace, and on empty land to the west of Foula Terrace.

Home Scotland, which was recently named large housing association of the year in the 2009 Scottish Home Awards, is now in the process of inviting representatives of the Mill O’ Main Tenants and Residents’ Association to take part in the selection process for the contractor who will carry out the building work.

Home Scotland hopes to have a preferred contractor in place by the autumn and this should allow work to start on site early in 2010.

The organisation is also planning a drop-in day, so that residents affected by phase one can view and discuss its proposals.

David Zwirlein, Home Scotland’s Head of Development (East), said: “Home Scotland has worked closely in partnership with the Mill O’ Mains Tenants and Residents’ Association and the City Council to get to the stage where we are ready to begin the long-awaited regeneration of the estate.

“The input and support from residents in particular has been fantastic and we are committed to maintaining this positive relationship with people from Mill O’ Mains and other residents in the surrounding area to deliver significant change in Mill O’ Mains over the coming years.”

Home Scotland will be contacting residents shortly to give them details about the drop-in day.

In total, up to 308 could be built over the seven years of the Mill O’ Mains regeneration scheme.
