Orbit First Step is delighted to announce the forthcoming launch of a new development of affordable homes at Cannons Wharf in the market town of Tonbridge.
The development, due for completion in the autumn, will feature 41 two-bedroom apartments that are being offered with a range of low-cost home ownership options. Each apartment is built to a high standard and is available complete with a fitted Kitchens that includes an oven, hob and canopy, along with a Zanussi integrated fridge freezer and integrated washer dryer. Some properties also include a balcony.
Depending upon your individual circumstances, the apartments are available under the New Build HomeBuy and Rent to Homebuy schemes as well as on an Intermediate Rent basis.
Formerly known as shared ownership, the New Build HomeBuy scheme enables buyers to purchase a share of the property with a minimum 25 per cent currently available from just £37,750. Most purchasers will need to raise a mortgage to purchase their share and then pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share. They can also ‘staircase’ - purchasing additional shares in the future, if they wish, until they own the property outright.
Alternatively, if you are unable to buy straight away, the apartments are available on the innovative Rent to HomeBuy scheme that provides a stepping stone between renting and purchasing. Under this option, people can move into the property they want to purchase as a tenant and pay a discounted rent – saving 20 per cent against the current market rental rate. While they are renting, they are encouraged to save for a deposit – which is one of the major hurdles for first time buyers. The monthly rents currently start an incredibly competitive £540.
You can also rent these apartments from £540 per month on the Intermediate Rent scheme which offers you chance to rent a brand new refurbished property at a subsidised rent. The rent charged is normally 20-30% lower than you would expect to pay for a similar property in the same area.
Sales and Marketing Manager, Diane Webster said: “By offering these apartments with both purchasing and rental options we are making them as accessible as possible for people in need of affordable housing in the area. Combined with the excellent location, with the local railway station within walking distance providing links to London and the Channel ports, and good bus services along the High Street, we anticipate a lot of interest in these homes. We can help people in all sorts of circumstances, whether you are a first time buyer, a key worker or simply need a new home as a result of a relationship breakdown - as long as your household income is less than £60,000 and you either live or work or have a family connection (parents or siblings) in Tonbridge and Malling. If you would like to find out if you could be eligible for one of these apartments, please contact us as soon as possible; it only takes a few minutes for us to assess your application and it could be the key to you getting a brand new home.”
