Home's award-winning Procurement team Home's award-winning Procurement team

Affordable housing provider Home is celebrating after winning a prestigious national award designed to honour the ‘unsung heroes’ of the housing world.

The organisation’s Procurement team triumphed in the Procurement Team of the Year category in the 2009 Housing Heroes awards.

The awards, organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing, recognise the commitment, passion and flair of people working in the sector.

The awards ceremony took place in London on 10th June and it attracted over 700 people from the housing sector.

Kevin Grainger, Home’s Procurement Director, said: “This is great recognition for the fantastic work the Procurement team does and we are delighted to win such a prestigious award."

Home’s award entry detailed how the Procurement team had delivered or identified savings in excess of £35 million and how it had contributed to non traditional procurement activities such as job creation, sustainability and the environment.

It also illustrated Home’s founder member status of GM Procure, a consortium that will help save the organisation over £10 million in Decent Homes products over the life of its programme.

Home was bidding for a hat-trick of successes after being shortlisted in three categories but even though they made it to the final six of their respective categories, Stonham’s Jupiter House Foyer and Stonham client board member Akiem Millar unfortunately did not win an award.

The Jupiter House Foyer in Middlesex was selected in the Support / Care Team of the Year category and Akiem, who currently lives at the Foyer, was chosen in the Inspirational Tenant of the Year section.

The Editor of Inside Housing, Stuart Macdonald, said: “The standard of the entries was really high and I was amazed at the compassion and commitment shown by our winners.”
