Circus skills and kickboxing were just two of the skills on offer this past weekend in Norwich, as Adult Learners Week was officially launched with a free taster event to showcase exactly what is on offer in the City.

Norwich-based Cotman Housing Association teamed with the Community Learning Mentors and Orbit East to launch a Community Learning Circus themed around fun learning. With activities for all the family, including a circus skills workshop, martial arts demonstrations, badge making, a stilt walking workshop, and bicycle repairs, the message was simple – learning can be fun.

Dr Ian Gibson, MP for Norwich North, officially opened the event, which allowed people to find out about learning opportunities in their local area and to get help to access them. Learning providers and organisations across the city were at the event, including Adult Education, Family Learning, Wherry Housing Association, The Guiness Trust and Norwich City College.

“We were overwhelmingly impressed with the success of the day, and will definitely be arranging a similar event next year” said Amanda Marsh, Senior Customer Services Officer for Cotman Housing Association, who helped organise the event. “We had a large turn-out on the day with over 100 people attending, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the range of activities on offer”.
