New Barnet Homes work opportunities are just the job
Two new job and apprenticeship opportunities are being offered through Barnet Homes as it steps up its drive to help local residents through the credit crunch.
The organisation has been promoting a Gas Safety Administrator Officer post and a grounds maintenance apprenticeship exclusively to its tenants and leaseholders as part of its new “Feeling the Squeeze?” campaign.
Residents living on Barnet Homes’ regeneration estates were given the chance to learn more about the Gas Safety Officer job during two recruitment days on the Stonegrove/Spur Road Estate and Grahame Park Estate at the end of March.
Meanwhile, the opportunity for the grounds maintenance apprenticeship, with college sponsorship, is being advertised through the April edition of Barnet Homes’ magazine for residents, AtHome.
The offers come shortly after Barnet Homes introduced “Feeling the Squeeze?” posters at bus sites across the borough to outline the support and help available for residents who may be struggling to pay housing rent or leasehold charges.
Barnet Homes’ Chief Executive Tracey Lees said: “The recession means that the jobs market is incredibly competitive, and many excellent candidates simply aren’t getting the opportunities they normally would.
“These new work opportunities could make a huge difference to the lives of two of our residents, and I’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch and find out more.
“We will continue to work with our partners to find more jobs and apprenticeships for our residents, and to offer any further support we can through our “Feeling the Squeeze?” initiative.”
The Gas Safety Administrator Officer post is being offered by Barnet Homes’ contractors Village Heating. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that residents and landlords are aware of the importance of having an annual gas safety check and service.
The grounds maintenance apprenticeship is open to any Barnet Homes resident, aged between 18 and 24 in line with current funding arrangements at Capel Manor College.
Barnet Homes will fund the cost of the award of a Level 2 NVQ at Capel Manor College, and the successful applicant will also gain paid practical work experience with Barnet Homes’ grounds maintenance team.
