Over 130 local residents attended a ‘Winter Fun Day’ at the Sure Start centre in Miles Platting on Saturday 6 December, organised by the Renaissance Consortium, a consortium of Adactus, Lovell and Investors in the Community undertaking regeneration work in Miles Platting; Zest and Family Action.
Residents enjoyed a range of activities including Christmas facepainting, jewellery and giftbox making, as well as tasting a range of non-alcoholic Xmas Cocktails and mince pies.
Miles Platting resident, Mikey Costello, aged 2 1/2, won the title for ‘Best dressed Christmas Costume, securing the prize of a singing reindeer and an arts and crafts box.
Leading up to the event several workshops took place where local community artists worked with residents to make a number of Christmas games such as ‘Hook a bauble’, ‘Tin Can
Santa’ and ‘Santa Drive’ which residents enjoyed on the day.
Residents will also be taking their games to a second event which will take place on 13 December at Grey Mare Lane Market, Beswick. This Christmas festival has been organised by New East Manchester and, as well as the games, will include a brass band, carol singing and gift ideas.
Iain Illstone, from Adactus Housing Association, said: “We are really pleased with the number of people that turned up on the day, but what made this event more special is the hard work and dedication of those residents who helped make the games and crafts prior to the fun day.
“Everyone is now looking forward to next week’s event at Grey Mare Lane and hope that the turn out is just as high.”
Adactus Housing Association, working in partnership with national affordable housing provider Lovell and Investors in the Community, is part of the Renaissance Consortium which is undertaking a regeneration scheme in Miles Platting.
