Riverside Housing is backing a competition aimed at getting young people hooked on fishing.

The social landlord, which has properties on Colshaw Farm, Wilmslow funded the Emergency Services Youth Fishing Competition, open to around 600 young people in east Cheshire.

The Wilmslow heats were held at Rossmere, off Race Course Road where four competitors went through to this weeks final in Goose Green, Macclesfield.

Tanya Marsh, community initiatives officer for Riverside Housing said: Fishing is a great activity for young people to get involved in. It encourages concentration and focus, has a calming influence, and of course helps youngsters engage with the natural world.

PCSO Emma Littlewood helped to organise the competition.

Emma said: Almost half of the young people that took part in the competition had never fished before. The event gives them a taste for one of the most popular sports in the UK. Through the support of our funders such as Riverside Housing we are able to provide equipment and meet the costs of the pool fees to provide a great day out for kids from Knutsford, Crewe, Macclesfield and Congleton.
