Action! Herefordshire Housing supports students in making film

Herefordshire Housing has supported students of the Worcester College of Technology in making a film to raise awareness of Fire Safety. The housing association allowed the students to use an empty residential property, which is due to be demolished as part of its redevelopment of 26 homes at Madley in Herefordshire.
With the help of Hereford & Worcester Fire Brigade and loaded with cameras, sound equipment and a smoke machine, the Media Studies students aimed to make the film as realistic as possible by
filling an empty property with smoke. The Fire Brigade then carried out their full fire fighting procedures, donning protective clothing and breathing equipment and used powerful hoses, which would
put the fire out.
It was fascinating to watch the film being produced. The students and the Fire Brigade were excellent, it is great to be able to work in partnership to help local students and to raise awareness of
fire safety said Graham Parfitt, Development Manager for Herefordshire Housing.
Herefordshire Housing has already helped the Fire Service in the past by allowing them to carry out training exercises in the empty properties before they are demolished.
We are really grateful to Herefordshire Housing for allowing us access to these properties. Its extremely rare that we get the opportunity to train in residential properties and it is great
experience for the fire fighters said Pete Hince, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service.
Herefordshire Housing will continue to work in partnership with the local Fire Service and have already offered the use of any empty properties at a similar redevelopment project in Wood Edge in
Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire for more training exercises.
