Shropshire residents 'benefit from best sheltered housing in the country'

Older residents in Shrewsbury and Atcham are benefiting from the highest standards of sheltered housing in the country according to a Government inspection.
Severnside Housing, which manages around 5,400 affordable homes in and around Shrewsbury, has been awarded an A grade for its sheltered housing from the Government’s Supporting People
programme.
Severnside is the first housing association in Shropshire to receive an A rating and is one of only a handful of providers in the country to get the grading.
Supporting People inspects all organisations providing sheltered housing on a regular basis to ensure residents are getting the right support and that their needs are being met in the best
way.
Severnside owns and manages around 668 sheltered homes – mainly groups of bungalows or flats designed to meet the needs of older or vulnerable residents. Professionally trained scheme
managers are on hand to support residents and also help to organise events and activities.
Shirley Castree, supported housing manager at Severnside, said: “This rating demonstrates that older people in Shrewsbury and Atcham are getting the high-quality services and accommodation
they deserve.
“Residents are supported to lead active and independent lives, and have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of social activities within the local community.
“The rating is a testament to the work of our sheltered housing team.”
