Broomleigh and South London and Maudsley NHS Trust's latest key worker scheme, St Giles, in Peckham, opened its doors to visitors, including Annie Shepperd, Chief Executive of Southwark Council and Leader of the Council, Councillor Nick Stanton for the first time today.
Key workers moving into the brand new development will not only enjoy modern, purpose built homes but will also benefit from designer living, courtesy of Conran and Partners.
The scheme, which brings Broomleigh's key worker homes in Southwark up to 350, has been developed by Broomleigh's parent company Affinity Sutton on the site of a disused hospital building.
In addition to the 64 apartments, which are a mixture of studio, one and two bedroom apartments, St Giles will also provide accommodation for the St Giles Locality through South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.
Benefiting from just over a £1 million of Challenge Funding from The Housing Corporation, St Giles was designed by Hunter and Partners and built by Rydon Construction, incorporating modern methods of construction. The building's lightweight steel frame was constructed off-site and each apartment has a generously apportioned bathroom pod.
Neil McCall, Broomleigh Chief Executive said, "We are committed to providing high quality homes incorporating high quality design for the capital's key workers. Our other key worker scheme in Peckham, Hanover Park, is already contributing to the regeneration of the area and I am sure St Giles will only add to this."
Liz Cole, Planning Manager for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust said: "We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Broomleigh and Affinity Sutton on this project. As well as providing vital key worker accommodation, the building's ground floor will enable South London and Maudsley NHS Trust staff to work more efficiently and effectively at the heart of the community."
As well as providing key worker accommodation in the Borough, Broomleigh is working closely with the London Borough of Southwark on the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle.
