A housing association has today announced a "revolutionary" health and housing partnership.

Herefordshire Housing has joined forces with the Gloucestershire-based Independence Trust to become a pioneering provider of 'total wellbeing' services.

The new group structure will enable both organiastions to support individuals, families and communities to achieve their potential for "sustainable wellbeing and independence".

The partnership, described as 'revolutionary' by the two organisations, will look to draw on the skills and expertise of staff to form a "unique package" for customers with a focus on mental and physical health, occupation, and safe and secure housing.

Peter Steel, chief executive of Independence Trust, said: "It was apparent from the outset that our work was complementary. Given the challenges faced by our clients and customers, it's clear that we need to work differently in the future."

Herefordshire Housing chief executive Peter Brown (pictured), said: “There was a remarkable synergy between our cultures and values and trust between colleagues developed quickly. Our new organisation fundamentally changes our relationships with people.”

A stock transfer association, Herefordshire Housing owns and manages 5,800 properties and already has a strong track record in the care sector. It is registered with the Care Quality Commission and delivers Independent Living Care and Support services. Its Herefordshire Careline service delivers telecare services across the country with over 33,000 connections.

The Independence Trust is a charity providing a range of 'interventions' focusing on strengthening emotional and physical wellbeing including healthy living, mental health and wellbeing, drug and alcohol support and housing support services.
