The BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door and Doorset Scheme will spread the word about the critical role of fire doors at an upcoming seminar on passive fire protection.

The CPD event, organised by the Fire Industry Association in conjunction with the Association of Specialist Fire Protection, will take place at Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Training Centre in Glasgow on 21 March 2013.

The seminar explains how to gauge passive fire protection when conducting fire risk assessments. It is aimed at existing assessors, aiming to expand their knowledge and provide the latest views and information from experts across the industry.

Following the recent launch of its ‘Stick to the Spec’ campaign for building contractors, BWF-CERTIFIRE will be speaking on the responsibilities of building owners and their advisers, the importance of specifying third-party certificated fire doors and doorsets, and the critical role of fire doors in the compartmentation of buildings to contain the spread of fire, protect property and save lives.

Other items on the agenda will include structural fire protection, ironmongery, smoke and fire dampers and fire ducting. The seminar offers a chance for professionals from different areas in the field of fire protection to pool their knowledge, answer questions about difficulties and issues, and provide tips for conducting fire risk assessments.

Events in other parts of the UK are being planned for September, October and November.
