It has been announced that the winning app from “Health Hack NI” will be made available to download in the new year. Software Company TotalMobile teamed up with Youth Workers to develop “MindMateNI”, a location based application that highlights where mental health and well-being services can be accessed.

Health Hack NI was a weekend event that brought together healthcare professionals, developers, designers and business people to work collaboratively on problems or ideas that improve healthcare. A local youth worker and Genesis Youth Centre came to the event with an idea and were able to work with developers from TotalMobile who made that idea become a reality.

Ben Rayot works with marginalised and at risk young people as well as being part of the MindMateNI team “We originally came to Health Hack NI to network with app developers and technology professionals. We’re in the process of developing a web app for the young people we work with that will provide information about Housing, Training, Employment and services that are available to them and wanted to meet people who could help us with the project.

“The idea for MindMateNI, came from experience I had with one of the young people I work with. He was experiencing suicidal thoughts and despite being nearby to an organisation that could have helped him, he didn’t know where to turn. This app will provide a resource to anyone in need, quickly showing them where they can find help and cutting out the step of visiting a GP”

Ricky Linton from Genesis Youth Centre added “With TotalMobile’s help, we have come up with something that will be genuinely beneficial. The young people at Genesis will be involved in launching the app and being able to take ownership of the project will be a great experience for them. We’re looking forward to making the app available and seeing the good it can do”

TotalMobile’s Chief Technology Officer Gareth Tolerton said “This year we launched our mobile working solution into the healthcare market. It was great to be involved in the MindMateNI project as we are committed to providing technologies that improve healthcare and help the NHS deliver a better service. Mobile technology has enormous potential for Healthcare and MateMateNI will be a great example of that.”

The MindMateNI will be made available on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry.
