On Tuesday 25th September, representatives from Local Authorities from all over Scotland attended “Mobile Scotland 2012”, a Mobile Working technology Conference in Edinburgh. The delegates from 19 councils throughout Scotland attended the event at COSLA Conference Centre to gain valuable insight into the issues surrounding implementing and updating Mobile Working strategies.

The conference was hosted by Consilium, who have provided efficiency saving IT systems for Local Authorities for over 26 year s and now specialise in Enterprise Mobility. Other companies in the technology industry that sponsored the event included Motorola, Fujitsu and Vodafone. Expert speakers from these organisations presented at the event, sharing knowledge of the main considerations for mobility projects in Local Government.

The event also included case studies of successful Mobile Working projects such as Highland Council, Fife Council and Aberdeen City Council. Aberdeen City Council use Consilium’s solution on Motorola devices and are now saving £1.5m annually in efficiency within the Building Services department.

“We were delighted with the turnout for this event” said Consilium Business Manager Ciaran McClintock, “Local Authorities in Scotland are investigating Mobile Working as the best solution for improving services in the face of resource constraints. The feedback from the delegates was really positive; it’s good to hear that these councils are moving forward and seeking to modernise their working processes”.

The information from this event will allow Scottish Councils to improve productivity, efficiency and service delivery through Mobile technology. These benefits can be achieved cost effectively as projects can deliver a quick return on investment and ultimately allow workers to provide a better service with restricted resources.
