Volunteers Volunteers

Volunteers, young women from SAVY (Stockport Action Volunteer Youth) and Stockport Homes’ team members joined together to bring a bit of colour to temporary accommodation provided for single women.

The enthusiastic team donned wellies and gloves and battled with trowels and garden forks in the large garden and had great fun whilst doing their bit for people who are homeless.  The hard work included digging over the soil and planting flowers, which were generously supplied by SAVY.

Three volunteers working with Stockport Homes also picked up their paint brushes and gave the front of Strathclyde House a new coat of paint, showing how we all have something to give and can make a difference.

Martyn Preston, Employment Support and Volunteer Coordinator said: “The project has been a fantastic success. The volunteers have not only made a big difference to the appearance of the scheme, but they have gained some new skills and confidence.  Work has now started on similar volunteer projects at Stockport Homes’ other schemes for people who are homeless in partnership with other agencies.”
