Cambridgeshire technology specialist iansyst Ltd has been awarded a top government contract to help 12,000 children with severe disabilities or special educational needs to get online for learning at home in England.
The Government’s Home Access programme will see 7 to 14 year-olds with severe disabilities or Special Educational Needs from low-income families receive a computer and internet package with additional hardware or software to help them use a computer and the internet at home.
As the first national programme to provide assistive technology (AT) in the home, Home Access marks a significant step towards achieving widespread digital inclusion. In support of this vision, iansyst will deliver bespoke AT packages in partnership with education experts XMA Ltd. Home Access computer packages with Assistive Technology have limited availability and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Families of children with severe disabilities or special educational needs should call the helpline 0333 200 1004 and find out if they are eligible for the programme.
Ian Litterick, Executive Chairman at iansyst Ltd, comments: “To improve learning and help to enhance digital inclusion, it is essential that learners with disabilities have equal access to ICT at home. The Home Access programme is arguably the largest procurement of assistive technology anywhere in the world and we are extremely proud to help deliver this.”
iansyst has a 27-year history of representing, publishing and distributing assistive technology solutions to the education, public and private sector, to help people with dyslexia and other disabilities. ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 Quality Mark conformant, iansyst delivers contracts to the highest industry standards on every scale, from individuals, schools and academies, to entire local authorities and the Government.
The Home Access application process is designed to be as simple as possible. To apply, families just need to call the Home Access helpline 0333 200 1004. After passing a basic eligibility check, an application form is sent out. Once this is complete, applicants will then undergo an individual appraisal with a specialist evaluator to confirm their need for assistive technology to help them access computers and the internet from home. Applicants will hear whether or not they qualify for a package soon afterwards.
