Home improvement partners help Hammersmith & Fulham pupils to get on their bikes

Pupils at a Hammersmith & Fulham school are being encouraged to get on their bikes in safety by the partners working to bring Decent Homes improvements to properties in the area.

Hammersmith & Fulham Homes and Connaught Partnerships Ltd, who are working in partnership to bring kitchen, bathroom, electrical, heating and external refurbishment improvements to approximately 2000 properties in the area, have provided hi-visibility clothing to Addison Primary School to support their ongoing ‘Bike It’ initiative.

As part of the scheme pupils from Years 5 and 6 are participating in activities at the school to familiarise them with the ‘dos and don’ts’ of safe cycling in order to encourage them to use pedal power to get to and from school every day. Miss Roxanne Thurlow, Bike It Champion at Addison Primary School, explained: “The Bike It scheme aims to encourage the pupils to include regular exercise as part of a healthy diet and the hi-visibility clothing will definitely help compliment this.

“The safety of the pupils is of paramount importance at all times and the kind donation by Hammersmith & Fulham Homes and Connaught will ensure they remain safe and seen by motorists throughout the winter months.”

Brian Lev’y, Connaught liaison officer, said: “Initiatives such as Bike It can help play a huge part in encouraging local young people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and the home improvement partners were therefore delighted to offer our support. By providing the hi-visibility clothing for 100 pupils we are hopeful that as many as possible will participate in the scheme and that they remain safe and seen at all times when on their bikes.”

Hammersmith & Fulham Homes and Connaught are working in partnership to deliver Decent Homes improvements as part of a £32m programme.
